Post Veritas Design Group Annual Dinner 2010 - Finally!

Costume?... Check..!
Hair?... Check..!
Accessories?.. Check..!
Performance?.. OMG.. Sey laa.. Mati..!

I have listed down a few things just to make sure that I was competitive enough for the TRIBAL NIGHT Veritas Design Group Annual Dinner 2010 (RM300 Best Female Costume. Siapa tak nak?!). Last minute decisions by Planning and Global to do the performance (3 days before the annual dinner! Gila!), compiling the musics, story board.. I was stressed.. And yet, I had fun practicing! Intan, Nassim, Tommy, Qairie, Rohen, Farhan and I busted our a**es just to make sure we will get the RM1,500 prize + Best Group Costume, another RM1,500. Wow!! Crazy right? Kaya betul Veritas ni.. I like!

That Saturday (23rd Jan) morning we had Veritas Quarterly Meeting, ugghh.. Came home late the night before and had to wake up EARLY in the morning to attend the meeting. But I was really looking forward to it, because we had a photo shoot going on. Oh yeah.. I was so game man! Hahaha.. I just love flashes! Confession: Dear bosses, sorry we had to leave early from the meeting, we had our final rehearsal/practice/wanted to win so badly for our performance. Maaf ye.

I was really kabut that day.. The final rehearsal, rushed for waxing and threading, salon to do the chic 'lion' hairstyle.. And finally, I arrived at the Borneo Baruk Club. I had to come early because I was assigned to register VAKL, VG and VP for the staffs' lucky prizes with Intan. While I was busy registering Veritasians, En. Azril (newly appointed principal) called. He got lost. Ish ish ish.. I agreed to wait for him at the entrance (where they have the big sign showing BORNEO BARUK. I still can't figure out how he missed the sign!). Dah la berpeluh2 tunggu dia, he couldn't even recognize it was me! He thought I was some 'drag/ah qua/she-male' on the job! Thanks En. Azril!

The party started at about 8.30pm, had our dinner right after David gave his speech and then.. Jeng jeng jeng.. Performance time..!

The 1st group performed by Veritas Architects Johor (they won for the best performance. Congratulations!). Waaaa~.. We did not win! It's okay.. Ada 1 lagi prize tinggal. 2nd group was us. OMG.. my heart was pounding real fast and hard. Berdebar okay! Intan had our performance recorded and we watched it a few days after. Wakakaka.. It was so damn funny! Dah la berterabur.. Ish ish ish.. Bottom line.. Our group had fun. Rohen's costume was the bomb! His character was British tourist (check out the pictures). Memang terbaik! 3rd group was VAKL's Admin, sorry I did not watch you guys performed, I was chit chatting with Azif's wife (nice lady. It seems that we have a few things in common ;p). And the last group.. Veritas Landscape (they pulled a Puteri Gunung Ledang theatrical performance). You should see their costumes! Made me go waaaayyy back to Hang Tuah era.. Classic! Oh yeah, by the way, they won the Best Costume prize! Waaaa~~ There goes our 'Chic Urban African Tribe' costume.. Congratulations Veritas Landscape. Tommy won the Best Male Costume prize and Nassim won the Best Female Costume prize. Congratulations you two! (What?! I didn't win anything at all? Well, next time maybe :( )

Well, there is no need to elaborate in details about the annual dinner. The pictures will tell you the story how much we had fun that night. Even my daddy (Ng Yiek Seng) was grooving on the dance floor! Go Daddy! Go Daddy! Go, go! Unfortunately I have no proof. I didn't have a camera with me at that time (Damn! Cannot blackmail la macam ni). All in all, it was really great that Veritasians were very sporting and always on the go when it comes to such events. Very 1Malaysia concept we have ; p

Tigers are contemplative, emotional and sensitive. Although a short temper and quick tongue may startle their inferiors, usually tigers are filled with a great warmth and sympathy for those of whom they are fond. They are widely respected for their courageousness. Power is their natural gift and they wield it with righteousness and authority.

@rchiTECTURE vs. @rchiTORTURE

Have we ever thought or contemplated on the whole notion of Architecture ?

Architecture has been commonly defined as a fusion between the Art and Science. Personally, I believe that Architecture SHOULD BE defined as an 'Art of Adaptation' ...
It has been an art that unified the need of mankind, responded to their social, climate and surrounding contexts ...

Over the yearS, we have seen the evolution of Architecture ...
From the Great Master of Poetic Architecture, Sir Frank Llyod Wright, the Functional Architecture of Le Corbusier, Social Architecture of Herman Hertzberger, Political Architecture of Jorn Utzon, Expressive Architecture of Herzog De Meuron and of course not forgetting the local Green Architecture of Ken Yeang ...

Globalization ... Industrialization ... Technology ... Sustainability ... Green ...
These big words are becoming some of the main vocabularies used to describe Architecture a.k.a. BUILDINGS.

In recent days, Architects are often asked to 'design' building that is similar to ONE that the Clients have seen in Country XYZ ...
Massive + Boxy Steel Structure Buildings (fast track and cost-saving) are emerging, mimicking the building typology of Factory / Warehouse for mass production ...
Local Design Guidelines or Building Compliances ...
Computer 3-D Modeling Softwares have facilitated and are gradually replacing the ORIGINAL designing 'tools' (pen, pencils, butter paper, T-Ruler, set squares) ...

Presumably, most of the Architects will reach to this important crossroad of self-reflection and start to wonder if we are on the right track of producing ArchiTECTURE or ArchiTORTURE ?

WHAT SAY YOU ?

@NNU@L DINNER @ BORNEO B@RUK CLUB

It's again the time of the year for VERITAS-ians to identify yet another hotspot in KL to 'terrorize' for their @nnu@l dinner. The hotspot to be 'terrorize-d' for this year is the BORNEO B@RUK CLUB, Jalan Kia Peng !

Let's have a brief enlightenment on what normally takes place during VERITAS-ians' @nnu@l dinner.

Familiar faces (including Principals, Associates and other fellow Colleagues) will creatively come out with some 'gadgets' or costumes to 'connect' with the THEME set by the Management. The best dressed male & female will be VOTED. All the efforts taken to 'decorate' themselves will then be rewarded handsomely.
Then, there'll be the normal lucky draw sessions (yes, we also would like to take this opportunity to extend our appreciation to all the sponsors) ...
Once a while, we will have some all-time favourite treats; like dangdut-dance, break / brake dance, slow-dance, ROMANTIC-dance and of course, last year's surprising BHANGRA-dance that most of us who have attended could hardly forget.

Cutting the story short, we could only summarize the event in ONE sentence, "The @nnu@l dinner always gone CRAZY and WILD at an un-controllable rate."
Well, it's a norm perhaps ? What do you expect when you squeeze a bunch of non-squarish-thinking people from creative line into an architectural space ?

So, this then brings us back to this year's theme, RAIN FOREST WORLD MUSIC (TRIBAL) NITE ... OOooooohhh ... tough one, huh ? We shall keep our eyes open and see what's going to happen by then ...

For info, The event will take place on 23 January 2010 @ BORNEO B@RUK CLUB (BBC), 6.30pm.

VERITAS-ians ... it's time to reveal your VERITAS-ness ONCE AGAIN !!! Let's TERRORIZE ...

An Idea for 2010

Ideas for the world? Pour quoi non! Por qué no! Warum nicht! Perché no! почему нет! Kenapa tidak! 为什么不!வி நாட்! Why not!

Let’s promote Veritas more widely to the public/ clients/ students by creating Veritas Design Group Gallery, a space where we can install/ display all our previous projects’ models, presentation boards, videos and etc. Show our ideas, educate our ideas to the world..

This gallery shall be the place for clients to value our work, appreciate our designs and for the students to have their ‘lawatan sambil belajar’ to explore more about architecture, planning, landscape architecture, interior design and quantity surveying - anytime, any day (they don’t have to wait until there’s an exhibition event!).

Imagine this..

Image extract from internet

I feel that all the models shouldn’t be sitting in the office where they can only be seen by Veritasians!

Who knows, maybe we will be the first design firm to have its own gallery in Malaysia.. probably in the world!
